Dr. Dani Karmakar is a prominent Playwright, Actor, Theatre workshop Instructor, Educator, Artistic Theatre Director and Social Activist of West Bengal, India. He is working in this field more than 25 years. He has completed his B.A, M.A, M.Phil. & Ph. D. in Drama from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata. He stood first position at the post-graduate in Drama. He is a Gold Medalist. He has qualified UGC NET in performing Arts-Drama. He was appointed as State Junior Research Fellow and State Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Drama of Rabindra Bharati University. Now he is a guest lecturer in the Department of Drama of Rabindra Bharati University, India. He was a member of Paschim Banga Natya Akademi, a wing of the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs, Government of West Bengal.
He has coordinated and attended many International and National theatre workshop, seminar, conference and festival in China, Mongolia, Bangladesh, Nepal and India. He attended at International Research Conference on “NOMADIC CULTURE AND MENTALITY AS A BASIS OF PROFESSIONAL THEATRE” held from September 15-17, 2023 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, organized by Saint Muse Academy and Mongolian Centre of ITI, UNESCO and at 2nd International Conference on Arts in China, organized by Shanghai Theatre Academy. He attended International conference on Contemporary Freedom and the New Crisis of Theatre between Ideological Extremism and the ‘Cancel Culture’, Date: 19th and 20th of May 2022, “Censorship in Indian Theatre” (Colonial Era to Contemporary Theatre). Organized by The Theatre Institute Bratislava – The Solovak Centre of the International Theatre Institute, ITI Worldwide and Octavian Saiu. He also attended 11th Annual International Conference, Mumbai, organized by: International Federation for Theatre Research collaboration with Lokakala Academy & Shahir Amarshaikh Adhyasan, University of Mumbai and National Theatre Conference on ‘Bridging the Gap – Theatre of Roots and Modern Sensibilities’, organized by : Department of Indian Theatre , Punjab University, Chandigarh, held on January 29-31, 2015.
He has trained under the guidance of many eminent theatre masters like H.Kanhilal, Sabitri Heisnam, Rajendernath, Bhaskar Chandavarkar, Shaktinath Jha, V. Ramamurthy, Ramgopal Bajaj, Dr. Mahendra Kumar, Birjit Naganomba, Bibhas Chakraborty, Rudraprasad Sengupta. He participated at “Young Theatre Artists Workshop”, which was conducted by Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi at Shantiniketan on 2004.He has written more than 30 plays, including ‘Sonmani’, ‘Mahamaya’, ‘12 No. Sukia Street’, ‘Rasta’, ‘Tathagata’, ‘Talaash’, ‘Masterda:1930’ etc.. He has acted and directed more than 70 plays. He is a founder of Rabindra Nagar Natyaayudh, a Government Registered theatre organization in India.He is an Editor-in-Chief of ISSN registered Peer Reviewed theatre journal ‘Theatre Dunia’[ISSN: 2321-8959].

His edited children’s drama book is ‘Kalachand Das Shishu Natak Samagro’.
He has coordinated and attended many International and National theatre workshop and seminar in China, Bangladesh, Nepal and India. He has received many awards like “Rang Bhushan Smman”, “Natya Bibhushan Samman” and “Rajaniprabha Smriti Puraskar”, ‘Guru Samman’ and ‘Chitto Sarkar Smriti Theatre Sammanana’, ‘Annasaheb Kirloskar Samman’ for his Theatrical Excellency.
